COMPETITION RULES OF THE INTERCONTINENTAL GOLF TOURNAMENT

The IGT Tour

The IGT Tour is a 18-hole strokeplay event in which the male and female players with the best overall net scores from each round of the Intercontinental Golf Tournament will be recognized as champions. Furthermore, each location will be assessed separately, resulting in the determination of seven continental champions for both men and women.

A 9-hole competition will run concurrently with the feature event for those who prefer a shorter game.

Continental Competitions

Each round will contribute to the overall IGT Tour standings, while also being scored separately to create its own distinct competition. For example, if a player scores a net 70 in stroke play at TPC Sawgrass, this score will be added to their total for the IGT Cup. Additionally, that same score may be evaluated using the ‘Stableford’ scoring system to determine the winner in North America. In South America, the ‘Par / Bogey’ or ‘Versus Par’ scoring systems might be applied, and so on.

Competitions like ‘Nearest the Pin’ and ‘Longest Drive’ will take place at select venues, alongside other spot prizes to recognize individual displays of skill.

General Competition Rules

Competitions are conducted according to the R&A Rules of Golf as well as the Local Rules established by each club. All participants and those marking scorecards are expected to be familiar with both sets of rules.

  • The full Local Rules will be displayed at each venue and provided to all competitors.
  • Temporary Local Rules will also be displayed and furnished to competitors.
  • Distance Measuring Devices are permitted for use.
  • Motorized Transportation is allowed unless restricted by the Head Greenkeeper or Course Manager due to poor course conditions.
  • A competitor’s score on any individual hole is capped at a maximum of nine strokes.
  • Any disputes regarding the rules will be resolved by the Referee, whose decision is final.
  • Each competitor must complete every hole and accurately record, sign, and submit their scorecard.
  • In the event of a tie in any continental competition, the winner will be determined by the best scores on the last 9 holes, then on the last 6 holes, followed by the last 3 holes, and finally the last hole.

Handicap Index

Official World Handicap System Indices are mandatory unless the organizers grant an exemption. In cases where no index is provided, the Referee will assign a starting index.

  • The starting handicap for each competitor will be based on the lowest index they achieved in 2025.
  • The Referee reserves the right to adjust each competitor’s Handicap Index after every round of the IGT.

Forms of Play:

Stableford

A player’s score for each hole is determined by the points earned through a comparison of their strokes to a predetermined target score, known as Net Par. The winner of the competition is the player with the highest total points after completing all eighteen holes. The point values assigned based on performance are as follows:

  • Net Bogey earns 1 point
  • Net Par earns 2 points
  • Net Birdie earns 3 points
  • Net Eagle earns 4 points
  • Net Albatross earns 5 points.

Par/Bogey

Scoring is determined similarly to match play where a player or team either wins or loses a hole based on the number of strokes taken compared to a predetermined target score for that hole. The target score is defined as Net Par:

  • Achieving a Net Birdie or better results in a Win (+1)
  • A Net Par results in a Half (0)
  • A Net Bogey or worse results in a Loss (-1)

The overall winner is the player or team with the highest score from wins minus losses. For example, if a player has 5 wins and 3 losses, their score would be +2 points.

Divisions

In addition to the overall IGT Cup, there are specific competitions held on each continent. Divisions may be established before the competition based on the Handicap Index, Course, or Playing Handicap. If the number of participants is limited, results may be combined into a single division.

For instance, the European round in Faro may feature three divisions: Senior, Intermediate, and Minor competitions. These divisions are classified according to handicap ranges, such as 0 – 10, 10 – 18, and 18+, respectively. Furthermore, each player’s score will contribute to their overall IGT Cup total.

Marking Competition Scorecard

  • A competition card must be marked by another member of the playing group.
  • Gross scores for each hole played should be recorded.
  • Any holes that are started but not finished must be indicated with a dash or zero. It is important to note that a no score on a hole will count as a score of 9 for that hole in IGT Tour calculations.
  • Once the round is completed, both the marker and the competitor must verify the scores and sign the card, indicating their agreement with the recorded scores.
  • After each hole, the marker should confirm the number of strokes with the player and enter the gross score on the scorecard.
  • At the end of the round, the marker is required to validate the hole scores by signing the scorecard.
  • Any questions or disputes regarding the Rules of Golf should be addressed to the Referee before submitting the scorecard.
